Matthew Perry "bullied" the japanese into signing a trade treaty by trying to negotiate opening trade relations with the united states. The negotation between Perry and the Japanese were not so much of a negotation but more of being bullied by display of military might. The modern technology that Perry introduce to the Japenese was really impressive because Japen didnt have that for there warships which made it more easier to compliance with the U.S wishes.
